This kit has been assembled from the requests of our customers, We have a wealth of breeding and rearing experience gathered over many years, but still feel that changes and improvements are ongoing and have completed several Veterinary CPD (Continued Professional Development) courses to help in this.

After each puppy or kitten is born, the mother typically breaks the amniotic sac, tears the umbilical cord, and begins to clean her baby. In all the years breeding only one of our girls have actually done this. If mum does not do this you will need to step in and break the sack, pinch the Umbilical cord about 13mm from belly with the Sterile forceps, then cut with the sterile Scissors and then apply Iodine to cord to prevent infection, if cord is bleeding after cutting this is when the cord clamp is applied. (for a short time only) The Puppy or kitten should begin moving and crying. Any Puppy or kitten that does not immediately move or cry should be retrieved and rubbed vigorously with a warm, clean towel over the back, abdomen, and top of its head. Suction of fluids from the nostrils and mouth with a bulb aspirator or mucus extractor may help the puppies or kittens breathing, lifedrops or lifedrops spray is also used to stimulate lifeless puppies and kittens.

All whelping kits come in a sealed bag keeping everything clean and together until ready to use it

• 1 x Kidney dish - keeping all of your instruments together and to hand while helping to deliver and/or putting placenta in after each puppy/Kitten even useful to use to clean down mum afterwards then throw away!
• 28 x Tyvek Bands (Paper like Material) - Easily identify puppies from birth, We use these for the first week while mum very messy and then we change to the quick release collars around 1 week old They last then until puppies leave us. Width can be cut in half on the tyvek bands to make two bands or for the smaller breeds some breeders cut in 3. They can even joined together for larger/older puppies. (Total 4 coloured bands per puppy when cut in half) * Please check daily and change as required, NOT Reusable
• 1 x Sterile Stainless Scissors - Cutting cord should you need to a lot of mums don't chew cord after delivering.
• 1 x Sterile Stainless Steel forceps - Clamping of the cord before cutting should it be required. We find these useful if our girl has a retained placenta but puppy has been born with cord attached to placenta so we clamp close to mum so we can cut the cord and to stop placenta going further inside.
• 2 Pairs of latex free gloves (Large) - should be worn at all times when giving assistance to the mother to prevent infection. Single Use gloves Ideal choice who are allergic to Late
• 5 x Small Cotton White Towels - To Dry and warm up puppy (White is used so breeder can quickly see any discharge colour or bleeding)
• 1 x 250g Beaphar Puppy Powdered Milk - Beaphar Lactol is a complete milk replacement feed for orphaned puppies. It can also be used for weaning puppies, pregnant or lactating dogs, or on sick or convalescing animals. Lactol has been produced for over 100 years, and has saved the lives of countless young animals. It is made from easily digested whey products and closely resembles natural bitch's milk.
• 1 x Feeding Bottle 50ml - Complete with 2 teats & Bottle Brush for cleaning this bottle is bigger than most supplied in kits and we find teat is softer and puppies latch on easier due to this.
• 2 x Whelping Box Liners - used under mum while delivering to soak up mess then simply throw away, you will be surprised with the amount of fluid/mess.
• 1 x Medical Grade Digital Thermometer with storage case - 12 - 24 hours prior to giving birth, the mother's temperature may drop. (Normally at least One degree drop indicates labour starting) Record temperature on the PDF chart that is included
• 2 x Reusable Cord Clamps 38mm (New Mini Size) - Pinch off umbilical cords in an emergency. We leave these on for for about 20 minutes or so until we feel bleeding has stopped. (We don´t leave puppy with mum while clamp is on we put on heat mat to help dry cord, so mum cant pull at it)
• 1 x Stethoscope Random Colour - useful instrument to detect fetal heartbeats before and after delivery.(between 7 and 8 weeks They sound like a really quick tick tick tick) We like to get our children involved with listening for heartbeats on our unborn puppies. Most important to make sure all puppies/kittens are delivered and to detect heartbeat on lifeless puppies.
• 1 x Sterile Bulb Syringe Aspirator - to remove mucus and debris from the puppies´ nostrils and mouth after birth.
• 4 x Sterile Alcohol Wipes - Clean instruments in-between use. This is our preferred wipe for cleaning medical instruments, it provides superior anti-microbrial properties over the standard 70% Sani Cloth (which we find too dry) has more liquid content providing a better clean, the chlorhexcidine gives added protection killing germs after the alcohol evaporates.
• 2 x Clinell Antibacterial Hand Wipes (Alcohol Free) The most effective antibacterial hand wipe available. These highly effective individually wrapped hand wipes clean and disinfect hands in one easy step without the need for soap and water. The patented formula impregnated into the wipe is proven to kill 99.999% of germs in a little as 10 seconds and continues to work for a further 24 hours. Clinell hand wipes can be used effectively on soiled hands to remove dirt as well as sanitising. Wipe Size: 20cm x 20cm
• 2 x 5g Sterile Lubricating jelly sachets - Help loosen the puppy/kitten when delivering and to also place on the thermometer during temp checks.
• 2 x Disposable Aprons - Keep your clothes clean while assisting delivery - some of the fluids from delivery will stain carpets/ clothes
• 1 x Free Sanitiser - used to clean hands without the need for soap and water - We always ask visitors/children etc to use this also before handling puppies.
• 2 x Free feeding Syringes - Feeding fluids/Milk to mum or puppy if needed (Not all puppies are strong enough to take to a bottle straight away) Sizes vary
• 1 x whelping guide leaflet, useful for novice breeders to help delivery run smoothly with info supplied in leaflet.
