To complete the insemination you will require a suitable clean container to collect the semen in from the male (i.e. a new soft food grade bag – or suitable clean (preferably sterilized and 100% dry plastic cup) and some non-spermicidal lubricant (Available in our other listings)

These AI rods are specifically designed for Insemination, they have a rounded tip to facilitate a traumatic insertion and are thin walled and flexible making them suitable to use on large and small breeds. Being flexible (or semi rigid) these follow the natural tract of the bitch, which is curved. Another feature is the rods become more flexible at 38°C – so by rubbing them with a paper towel before use you can increase the flexibility of the rod.

When done correctly AI with fresh semen produces results equal to a natural mating, things that will reduce the chance of your female getting pregnant are generally to do with the handling of the sperm – factors that will reduce sperm viability are sudden changes in temperature, certain rubbers and water.

These AI rods have certain design features to aid insertion, incorrect or excessively forceful insertion can cause the tubes to kink (far better this than inserting the tube into the bladder) before attempting AI you should have a good working knowledge of the reproductive and urinary tracts of canines or seek professional assistance. This is especially the case if there are any abnormalities in the reproductive tract preventing a natural mating.
